What Is Cover-Up Tattoos?

Cover-up tattoos are one of the most technically challenging services in tattooing. Unlike working on clean skin, a cover-up requires the artist to design around and over existing ink, colors, and scarring. The new design must be carefully planned to use darker values, strategic placement, and the right style to effectively conceal the original work while creating something beautiful in its own right.

Can any tattoo be covered up?

Almost any tattoo can be improved or covered, but not every tattoo can be completely hidden. Dark, saturated tattoos are more difficult. Our artists will be honest about what is realistically achievable for your specific situation.

What styles work best for cover-ups?

Japanese, blackwork, American Traditional, and bold neo-traditional work best for cover-ups due to their use of dark values and solid fill. Black and grey realism can also work well for the right scenarios.

Do I need a consultation for a cover-up?
